The Salty Dog Coral Cove is proud to present Advanced Reef Biology!  A premium brand dedicated to providing the highest quality of cultured phytoplankton and other live reef organisms for your home aquarium.

At The Salty Dog Coral Cove we firmly believe that phytoplankton forms the nutritional foundation for the home reef aquarium.  Corals and other invertebrates in the aquarium will ravenously consume phytoplankton providing them with the energy they need to grow and reproduce.  Phytoplankton also plays a key roll in supporting a healthy copepod population.  Copepods play a vital roll in a heathy reef aquarium by providing an excellent source of food to coral and other invertebrates.  Copepods also make up a large component of the clean up crew scavenging the aquarium for dead and decaying matter and quickly cleaning them up.

Phytoplankton and copepods form the essential foundation of the reef aquarium food chain, supporting a thriving, balanced ecosystem. Phytoplankton, tiny plant-like organisms, are primary producers that convert light into energy through photosynthesis, providing a crucial food source for a wide variety of reef species. These microscopic plants nourish filter feeders, such as corals and clams, and serve as the initial food source for zooplankton, including copepods. Copepods, small crustaceans, play a vital role by acting as a primary food source for juvenile fish and other invertebrates in the tank. Together, phytoplankton and copepods create a natural, sustainable cycle that supports the health and growth of aquarium inhabitants, promoting biodiversity and stability within the reef ecosystem.
