Dino X

Dino X is a potent algicide that can be used to eradicate gold algae and dinoflagellates that commonly plague marine aquaria.  When used as directed it can help treat these outbreaks without harming fish, corals, and other invertebrates.

 

To prevent overdose, it is very important that the exact volume of water in the aquarium be calculated.  Regular dosing is 5mL of Dino X per 100 L (26 gal) of water.  For heavy outbreaks up to 6 mL Dino X per 100 L (26 gal) of water can be dosed. 

 

It is recommended that a protein skimmer be used 24/7 while using Dino X and be set to skim wet.  This will increase the oxygen levels in the aquarium and will help avoid low oxygen levels associated with the decay of the released organic compounds.   It will also help minimize the toxic effects of some of the compounds found in gold algae and dinoflagellates. 

 

Dino X should be dosed every two days until the algae is eliminated.  Dinoflagellates usually require 10 doses, and other algae require approximately 15 doses.  Water changes should not be done while treating the tank to maintain a therapeutic level of Dino X.  You should wait one week after your last dose of Dino X to begin your regular water change schedule.

 

Most dosing should be suspended when dosing Dino X because these solutions can make Dino X less effective.  It is acceptable to dose balling light essential elements or lime water as they do not affect the function of Dino X.   Please avoid dosing trace elements, mineral salts, amino acids, SPS food, Balling Light Trace B Elements.  Most premixed calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium solutions also contain trace elements and those should not be dosed.  Additionally, all phosphate removes should be discontinued as well as ozone and activated carbon.

 

Immediately after you finish you’re your treatment with Dino X you should run fresh activated carbon to remove the medication from the system.

 

Dino X should be dosed in the evening but preferably 1 hour AFTER the main lights have shut off.  For maximum effect the photo period should be reduced to no more than 6 hours per day.  Dino X is most effective when zooxanthellae are not photosynthesizing therefore the reduction in photo period and dosing when the lights are off maximizes its effect.
